ISOFLUX

The Biogeochemical Fluxes and Stable Isotopes platform at the European Ecotron in Montpellier (Isoflux) is a gas analysis platform that operates across the three experimental platforms: Macrocosms, Mesocosms and Microcosms. It enables continuous online measurements to be taken when coupled with an experimental platform, as well as independent measurements when sampling is carried out on flasks or exetainers.

The platform can be accessed either through the service offered by one of the experimental platforms or directly as part of a collaboration or service provision.

TRACE GAS FLOWS

Our IsoFlux platform offers the ability to measure the flows of numerous gases, including the main greenhouse gases and various trace gases (CO, NO, NH, O and CH). This is made possible by a wide range of instruments, including optical laser analysers (Aerodyne, Picarro), infrared analysers (Licor) and portable gas exchange systems (Licor). These measurements enable us to study the ecophysiological mechanisms at work within an ecosystem or organism, such as photosynthesis, respiration, and certain microbial activities. We can design and build open or closed (accumulation) flow measurement devices according to your needs.

STABLE ISOTOPES

Our IsoFlux platform also offers the opportunity to measure stable isotopes of carbon (12C, 13C), nitrogen (14N, 15N), oxygen (16O, 17O and 18O) and hydrogen (1H, 2H) isotopes in gaseous and liquid matrices in order to study in greater detail the ecophysiological or physicochemical mechanisms at work in an ecosystem. Measurements can be taken continuously and coupled with trace gas flow measurements, or taken on samples (flask, exetainer, liquid water). To do this, we are equipped with several laser isotope analysers (Aerodyne, Picarro), as well as a Delta V Plus isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) Delta V Plus (ThermoElectron) equipped with a Gasbench, a Dual Inlet and a set of special collectors (air-ratio). We are also able to implement isotopic labelling (steady-state or pulse labelling) to trace element flows during experiments conducted on our three experimental platforms.
